Next up on the boys list of groups to make lists for it’s Seventeen right here. It was tough picking who to write for next since I know lots of songs from different groups and I could write for any of them as long as there’s enough songs. Seventeen has LOADS of songs in the 6 years they’ve been together since debut and well let’s say this list took some time to go thru because of that.

10. Rock

Starting off with the Boys Be album, aka my favourite album from theirs considered. This song is quite simple but I do like it a lot, it’s catchy and has enough variation to keep my attention. The EDM beat is pretty good and the chorus is probably my favourite, not entirely sure why but it’s poppy enough to my liking and and the harmonies are great. The percussion switch up in the second verse was a great touch too, the variation needed to keep the song interesting. Yeah I don’t have too much to say about it other than it’s enjoyable and I like it a lot.

9. Flower

While Flower isn’t exactly my top favourite song from the Teen,Age album, it does make it onto here for how interesting it is as a whole. To put it simply, to my ears this songs seems very unconventional especially for a Seventeen song. Whatever the plucking ostinato is that happens throughout the song is very interesting to listen to, not something you hear very often. The yeah~ harmonies that happen in the pre-chorus is also quite interesting but I welcome it nonetheless. The chorus is quite powerful and is quite the shift from the intricateness of the verses with how powerful the percussion hits are, same thing with the bridge of the song. Overall this is quite an interesting one to go through.

8. Highlight

As much as the vocal unit is my favourite, the performance team really do come out with great songs like these once in a while. While this song doesn’t do anything weird or different, it still is a great listen through and through. Very reminiscent of older EDM songs from 2012/2013 while still being fairly modern, the addition of strings through the verses is a great touch. Nothing too much to say either, just an enjoyable song.

7. Without You

Now for the song that shows the juxtaposition between 2 different styles and making it as seamless as possible. I know many other songs have done this type of song but I don’t know whether it’s as seamless as this. The mix of pop EDM with the soft mellow guitar strumming in the pre-chorus do make a very interesting combination. The percussion samples really do bring a lot of impact to the song too. Despite it all sounding like it shouldn’t work, in the context of the song it really does.

6. OMG

Another performance unit song and this SLAPS ngl like damn that beat. It is still quite an unconventional beat for the performance team but it does seem to work in their favour to make things different. Paired with the whispers during the pre-chorus make the explosion of a weird, modal(?) EDM beat have more impact. As much as I’m not into performances or stages all too much, the ninja inspired stage they made for this is incredible and is really well done, one of their best songs and stages yet.

5. No F.U.N

As much as the iconic ‘Manners make a man’ line isn’t in the official version of the song, we’ll just make due with what we have. This song is all kinds of epic and drama, well depending on how you perceive it, with its very intense and also odd choice of percussion samples but it does provide the right soundscape for the song. The synth ostinato in the background is very subtle but does make sense for the hook. The main vocal line really do bring justice to the chorus, giving it more impact to the already dramatic epic soundscape of the song.

4. Getting Closer

I have no idea if this counts as cheating but it’s technically not a title track and is a B-side for the You Made My Dawn album so here it is. The best way to describe this is that it’s the male equivalent of Red Velvet’s RBB, as in there’s not too much going on instrumentally except for a select few moments while the vocal line goes EVERYWHERE like the vocal lines go places. The song is quite static with the bass synth and the lighter percussion hits but the select few sections where it gets interesting is the bridge with the gun clocking noises and the dance break. This soundscape really does set up the best time for them to experiment and go crazy with the different vocal lines they’ve set up.

3. Run to you

And it is anime time ladies and gents and we’re here for a good time indeed. The fact they made this in Korean first instead of saving it for their Japanese albums really is a waste but at least it allows us to listen to it sooner. It’s really much like a typical anime opening in the best way possible. The really epic guitar line, the what I assume is a real drum kit and also adding the soft piano for the bridge really does make it feel like a real anime experience. The epic guitar line hook really does sound like a typical hook for an anime and it’s awesome.

2. Kidult

Time for emo pop ballad and I love this song a lot. Pop elements are there in the verses, very soft and mellow while the power ballad chorus blows through the song is just amazing. The guitar line in the chorus is great too like it adds so much power to the song and the percussion hits too. The choral singing in the bridge too adds so much to the song. The whole song feels very soft and mellow while also being powerful and inspiring all at one go.

1. Fronting

Very unconventional choice for me and in general for Seventeen songs but I really do just enjoy this song the most after all these years. A hip-hop unit song for number one and it really is a good song though. The pop chorus and the really softer mellow R&B chords for the verses really do work well. A very odd reasoning for why I like the song but besides the how poppy and mellow the song is compared to other hip-hop unit songs, its the raps I like the most and this is coming from someone who doesn’t like rap or hip-hop music all too much. The song really sounds like they’re just having fun and the raps sound really good and diversified enough from the 4 of them and well that’s why I had the most fun listening to this the most.

And that is all for Seventeen right here. Honestly this took me a while to get through since they have a longer discography considered but hey it was fun to go through and listen to all those songs that I enjoyed back then and now. As always in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening and good night.
